The finale of the Rough Trade Record Song Reader show was “Do We? We Do” and all the musicians involved on stage: Ed Harcourt, Carl Barat, Steve Mason, Leila Moss, and a band called Stealing Sheep.
(PS. I have five songs up from this show; I don’t know how many were performed but this is what’s on YouTube as of this moment.)
“Why Did You Make Me Care?” (live) by Ed Harcourt and Carl Barat
Got two more Rough Trade live videos for you real quick. This is the slightly goth-y “Why Did You Make Me Care?”
Artist: Ed Harcourt and Carl Barat
“Don’t Act Like Your Heart Isn’t Hard” (live) by Steve Mason
I like this one a lot, a live version of “Don’t Act” by Steve Mason at the Rough Trade Records Song Reader concert. If you don’t know the name, music fans may remember Steve as the singer from The Beta Band! They were a terrific band!
“Rough On Rats” (live) by Carl Barat and Ed Harcourt
Continuing with the Rough Trade live show videos, here’s a duet on “Rough On Rats” by Ed Harcourt and Carl Barat. This song could not be more like Tom Waits, could it?
So as I said in the last post, last night there was a Song Reader concert in London hosted by Rough Trade records. They had some name musicians there, turning the book into a fun live event. Ed Harcourt was apparently the main arranger/musician of the evening. Here is a short write-up of the night. So far I’ve seen 3 videos surface, and I’m gonna drop them all right here. :)
The first is by Leila Moss, known as the vocalist for the band The Duke Spirit. Her version of “America, Here’s My Boy” totally gets the melancholy right, and is enhanced by a guy on a musical saw.
